ASUS Transformer : First Impressions

This is the device I just got hold of, purchased from Flipkart for Rs. 29213 with the keyboard dock.

I am not an Apple hater : Although I prefer Android over iOS, I would say that the iPhone 4 has superior hardware to every other smartphone out there now. Also, I rather like their MacBook ranges.

But I think they have been comprehensively beaten in one product - the tablet. The EEEPad Transformer not only seems to offer a superior touch based interface than the iPad, it actually behaves close to how a PC should. Multitasking works smoothly - games keep downloading updates in the background while I switch over to a web browser, they don't remain in a "suspended" state. Authentic tabbed browsing is present out of the box. Further, the keyboard dock can be plugged in to make this truly like a netbook. The iPad is a cool toy, but this is a very usable casual computing device.

Usability seldom wins over Coolness.

Why does it matter that it "win" ? :)

Why compare it to iPad at all then? Just because you do _not_ hate Apple? :)

Because I found it superior to the iPad. People with similar requirements as me might agree.

Ok, then Usability is seldom "globally superior" to Coolness. Fine?

Hey I don't diss the ipad. And my point is that neither Usability nor Coolness "win" over each other. It is pointless trying to say that a device "wins" over an other. There is stuff that the Transformer can do far better than the iPad. There could well be some things the other way round. As far as _my_ experience goes, I found much more of the former. Those who feel differently, cool.

And might I ask which of my anonymous readers is a George Carlin fan :D
